When I watch a recorded tv show with media center the pic is oversized. I lose a few inches on all sides. The top of peoples heads are chopped off, I only see half on the channel logo, everything below is off screen. But the shows play normal if I watch them on VLC, full screen noting cropped off

First, make sure you don't have zoom settings enabled that would cause this. Then go through display setup in WMC. When it asks what kind of display device you are using, select television. That should clear up any overscanning done by WMC.
