Migrating Topfield .rec files to .wtv files with Metadata

Hi all, have spent a couple of days on this so far and have not had much luck

I am moving from a Topfield 5800 to Windows Media Center on Windows 8. I have 4500 odd recordings that I need to move and we really want the metadata however it appears that the metadata in the .rec files themselves are unreliable (as they take the metadata from the time of the recording start which with padding is usually the program before) - and the other metadata I have (through an add on program called MyStuff) it is difficult or impossible to tie the file to the metadata with some tenuous links through channel and times and having to read the header info in the .rec file.

The .rec to .wtv works well in VideoReDo and I think I have found how to automate this using wscript syntax.

I am looking for some advice on how to get the metadata into the files with the least amount of manual effort or if there was a way to do this as I go along perhaps with a plug in or something through the windows media center itself.
