Remote switches to "mouse" mode

I have a Logitech 300i remote that's set up as a Media Center remote. A couple of times recently when you use the arrow keys, the mouse cursor shows up, and moves very slowly in the direction of the arrow key that you're pressing.

I tried pulling the batteries from the remote, restarting WMC, pressing various buttons on the remote, but the only thing that seems to reset this behavior is restarting Windows.

It's not a crisis when this happens because we also have a Gyration remote, so we use that until it's convenient to reboot the PC, but I'd like to find a more convenient solutio.

It's quite possible that this problem kicks in when someone sits on the remote, or puts something on it that presses a particular key combination.

Has anyone seen this happen, and if so, do you know what keys to press to turn the behavior off?
