I have a lot of dvds that I would like to move to hard disk, mainly for convenience. I am just curious, what ripping program, format, bitrate etc that you have had success with in the past?

Thanks in advance

Preferred would be the native source format. Second would be native source material wrapped in an mkv container. That said, see my thread here if you want to try something out: http://www.thegreenbutton.tv/forums/vie ... =69&t=4885

In your case for DVDs, it would be VOB folder rips or .iso rips as 'source'.

If space is not an issue, I would use makemkv.

staknhalo - you did see this was the Echo thread right? I haven't tried, but I didn't think ISOs would work on an extender?

I was under the assumption if you use a mounting plugin on the HTPC host like mikhino's, that it would basically mount it and then play to the extender - I don't use this type of setup so I'm speaking solely from conjecture. If I'm wrong then scratch that option.
