Firmware 1.2.2.6 laggy?

#1

Post by woodchuck » Sun Dec 30, 2012 5:00 am

I moved to the beta firmware bandwagon a few months ago and was really happy that my "blue circle of delay" had been reduced to a few seconds and a few "no tuner available" messages had been alleviated. Both would happen on resume from standby. Since moving to 1.2.2.6, I have had some long waiting for the "blue circle of delay", and a couple "no tuner available" messages after resuming from standby. Is there a way to go back one firmware release to see if the problem goes away?

Interesting- I get the blue circle and no tuner message after resume from standby/ opening media center almost without fail. The circle lasts for 5-10 seconds. Which firmware version were you using that seemed to minimize the issue?

It was the firmware that would have been from about 10/23/12. Unfortunately I don't have the actual version number. I moved to it when I updated to the driver in this post, and subsequently updated to the latest beta firmware on that date:

Based on the dates from a thread over at AVS, I would say I was on 1.2.1.1. I cannot find a way to go back though.

I agree with Woodchuck, the latest firmware/software versions do not work as good as the previous version.. I wish I could be more helpful and provide actual ver#s, all I can remember now is that I have latest firm/software installed and is not working as well as it was previously.

I agree also this firmware takes longer than the previous version for the spinning circle of impatience to disappear... I also had one of my ceton cards fail to record a show the other night, it tried all 4 tuners and failed on each one. Weird!?!

@newfied
My turn to try to help U.. I had the same issue where recordings would stop due to signal strength since upgrading to this latest firmware/software. I did as suggested in this forum -> turn off power completely and pull out card, let it sit for a while; insert card and start up; reset all card settings through the diag tool; find card/channels in MCE.
This did it for me, I've recorded 20 or so shows since that time without a single incident.

@ tester.. Thanks for the info. So far I haven't had another recording fail yet.. I'm going to let it sit for now but if it happens again I'll try your suggestion. Thanks.

I have noticed that it takes much longer to secure the signal upon a reboot. The waiting for tuners, while usually in the 60 - 90 second range now seem to be up to 3 minutes.

I concur, I now notice more errors and takes longer to wake the card from sleep. The prior firmware/software was must better.

Anyone know if there is a way to revert ? @Ceton - U guys have something coming down the pipe soon that we can look forward to ?

Well I found a way to get off of this firmware, but I was not able to go back to 1.2.1.1 (the one I found to be the best). What I did was download the image from the Linux support page on Ceton's site. Then I manually updated to the firmware by using the diagnostics webpage for the card (system tab, down toward the bottom). Once on 1.1.7.2, I was able to use the standard update process to get back to 1.1.8.2 (stable). Unfortunately the only beta the diag tool offered was 1.2.2.6. So far, I am happier at 1.1.8.2 than 1.2.2.6, but I do miss 1.2.1.1!!!

Edit:
As I'm sure you guys know, doing this might brick your card, so don't yell at me if you do. Follow these steps at your own risk.

Thanks for the tip, wood chuck. I went back to the last stable firmware. Seems like the initial ring wait is less on starting wmc, although initially tuning the channel and channel changing seems a tiny bit slower.

Well after hardware update 6829 came out, using 1.2.2.6 has been much better for me. Maybe it is just placebo, but it sure seems a lot better.

As far as going back to an older firmware, in the past I had to do that and opened a support ticket with Ceton and after very little discussion was provided a link to download a specific firmware that was stable for me. That was not a beta version though. As stated above, this may be hazardous to the health of your InfiniTV card, use caution. (no power loss, etc.,)
