XBox + Windows 8 = "Finding Windows Media PC" troubles

I used to use Win7 with Xbox extenders and a Ceton InfiniTV. When I'd turn on the Xbox and go to the WMC selection, I'd quickly see "Finding Windows Media PC", then "Processing", then "Downloading", then off to WMC.

Since "upgrading" to Win8, my extenders spend much longer at "Finding Windows Media PC" -- and in fact sometimes never get past that and instead go to the "try again" screen. If I "try again" sometimes it will work, other times I "try again" a third time, and then it will work.

Again, under Win7, "Finding Windows Media PC" was almost instantaneous.

(Once I get into WMC on the Xbox, things work just fine)

Any ideas?

Have you turned off the power saving function for the network adapter on the HTPC?
