Intel Comcast partnership, Xfinity (WIN8?) IP TV viewing
"Intel confirms partnership with Comcast, brings Xfinity TV viewing to Intel-based devices"
Maybe this means we'll see a nice Windows 8 app in the near future?
This could be the evolution of a post Media Center HTPC

Intel-based devices means Intel-based and Intel-developed STBs, not Windows machines.

Ultrabook is a laptop, All-in-one is a PC
Also if you remember our history when media Centre was first in Launched in 2003 it was only available on OEM approved desktop computers. Maybe they will open it up for everyone after they get the base started/proved.

The system works by utilizing an Intel-based set top box as a gateway (the ARRIS Media Gateway 2402). If you look at the features, you'll realize this is just a fancy cable box (after all, it includes integrated QAM and DVR capabilities...which are important to note due to the FCC's integration ban, which will require this device to have a CableCARD....in other words, it's just a fancy cable box.) This of course means you'll probably only be able to obtain the gateway STB from Comcast for a never-ending monthly fee.

Is this video gateway built into that new STB? If not, maybe they will create a Windows 8 app that interfaces with XFinity with no $ per month STB in the house.
Even if it is a STB, I wonder how much a month it would be. The whole on demand thing has to evolve at some point either way. Every single live channel and show should be accessible to us on the device of our choosing at some point.
The comments at the bottom of the Engadget article are blasting this is garbage already, so you're right it's problem all hype and nothing to wait for or be excited about.
Either way, it's good to step back and think how things will or should be in a several years from now. I'm perfectly happy with my 8 Ceton tuners!

The gateway is the STB. It is manufactured by ARRIS and uses Intel hardware. You can read the actual ARRIS press release here: http://ir.arrisi.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=87 ... highlight=.

If it runs on Windows, then it runs on non-Intel hardware as well.
Won't happen.
