Xbox 360 50 Hz output

(nice to be back on TGB)

I've recently tried switching from a DMA2100 extender to an Xbox 360. (The main reason for doing this is so that I can watch recorded HD content.)

But there is a problem that I simply cannot live with. In extender mode the Xbox 360 insists on driving the TV at 60 Hz rather than 50 Hz. Displaying the 50 Hz recorded TV content produces horrible judder.

I have extensively Googled and found lots of discussion on this. Most of the discussion dates back to 2007 or so. There was talk of it being fixed in an Xbox update. But from what I can gather that possibly only causes the Xbox to output at 50 Hz in game mode. Other discussions mentioned a Vista update that fixes the problem. I'm running Windows 7...

I've updated the Xbox to all the latest stuff. I've played with the Display settings in the Dashboard and found and selected the 50 Hz option there. But everything I've tried still results in 60 Hz output and horrible judder.

So, has anybody got this working? And if so, how?

Pete
