No sound after changing the channel?

#1

Post by francorosso » Thu Dec 20, 2012 1:29 am

I have this problem where I change a channel after an extended period of being tuned to one channel and the sound just stops. I fix it by playing a movie or selecting some other media momentarily and then going back to live tv. Anybody else had this issue and is there a fix? Also I have had the jittery video problem too, fixed it each time by rebooting the WMC PC.

Can you provide some details about your wiring setup? Are you going directly to the receiver or TV?

The hdmi cable goes to the tv and I have the speakers in the tv disabled. Then I have a optical output from the tv going into my receiver. However, I have also had the tv speakers turned on and the same issue happens. What is interesting is that the computer sounds -the dings that WMC makes when you move around inside the program - they all still work. So it is just the tv channels that have no sound. Let me know if you have any other questions.

For testing purposes, can you connect the HDMI cable directly to the receiver?

Nope, it's a Sony that I bought in 2003 before they were putting HDMI's on mainstream AVR's......

I didn't know there is an optical cable on the PCI card! I can, but the problem hasn't happened for a few days. I'm going out of town in the morning but I will try it when I get back and post here.
