Woohoo!
I keep toying with the idea of building a small form factor htpc ( I've got matx right now) but I wonder if I can fit everything, including the ceton x4 card if I go top low profile, for example. An external usb box would be nice, but isn't the whole point of these things to reduce the number of boxes?

I'm assuming USB has enough throughput to handle 4 tuners. How would this compare to the HDHomerun Prime with the ethernet interface?

Both the Ceton and HD HomeRun Prime can share the tuners over the network now so not much different other than the interface (USB vs. Ethernet). I have an Internal InfiniTV 4 and that thing has been flawless. It just works.. Figured I might add another USB Tuner for 8 Tuners total and then share some of those with other PC's in the house since I no longer have any room to add another internal card.

So, even USB 2.0 should be able to handle 4 HD streams without issues ... wonder when the USB version will be available? I had MB issues with the internal card that prevented me from using it, so I'd definitely be interested in trying it out.

It shouldn't be too much longer. Production on the Internal units has caught up so being able to crank out the USB version (external) should be pretty quick and painless as long as parts supply remains steady. Since it passed cable labs cert. It shouldn't be much longer.EmirOfGroofunkistan wrote:So, even USB 2.0 should be able to handle 4 HD streams without issues ... wonder when the USB version will be available? 6 streams is only 15 MB/s. USB 2.0 can easily handle that. USB 2.0 real-world performance is enough for about 12 streams (maybe a little lower due to increased overhead...but not much lower...maybe 10 streams). Of course, by then you have exceeded the limits of most HDDs....maybe a Velociraptor could keep up?

All six streams only 15 MB/s? I must be thinking of the uncompressed OTA signal then.

20 Mbps = 2.5 MB/s.
2.5 MB/s * 6 = 15 MB/s.
2.5 MB/s * 6 = 15 MB/s.
