Linksys DMA 2200 will not play live or recorded tv
HELP!!!!
I had been using HTPC running MC2005 with an extender for a while and finally upgraded my HTPC to Win7 (32), thus necessitating a new extender. I snagged a DMA2200 and set it up to work with my HTPC. I have a Lenovo 6487-2AU with a Core 2 Duo E6300, Win7 with 2 - 1TB Raid Array Drives, a Hauppage 1600 Card, NVidia GT430 Video Card, and a 1 GB wired network. The extender is hooked up to the wired 1GB network and a HDTV with a HDMI cable.
I can view recorded and live tv on the HTPC, however I have not really been able to make the extender work for and video files as I get the "files needed to play video are not installed or not working correctly - restart media center" error.
After researching many postings and trying numerous fixes, I recently was able (after resetting the extender and reinstalling it on the HTPC) to view a recorded program. Feeling lucky in that I resolved the issue, i stopped the playback, and tried to view another recorded program - only to receive the error above. Then after that, nothing I would do (other than resetting and reinstalling the extender) would allow me to view video - again only a single instance of playback and errors after that.
My frustration has led me to believe that there is someone way smarter than me and has resolved this issue previously.

Try the latest driver:
http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/3 ... h-whql.exe
Before doing so, take a snapshot image of your system (Control Panel-->Backup and Restore).

I backed up, downloaded and installed the new video driver. Rebooted and everything works fine on my HTPC (just as before)Scallica wrote:Try the latest driver:

however, the same story on the Media Center Extender - files needed to play video are not installed or not working correctly. Restart windows media center or restart the computer....
I am ready to punt this (DMA2200) thing out the door!!

Did you try deleting the extender, doing a factory reset on it, then re-adding it?
Also, try setting up the extender on another Windows 7 system as a test.

OK - I did the following -Scallica wrote:Did you try deleting the extender, doing a factory reset on it, then re-adding it?
Also, try setting up the extender on another Windows 7 system as a test.
-Deleted the extender on the HTPC
-Removed Media Center Features thru Control Panel
-Rebooted
-Ran for a few days without MC features on the HTPC
-Added MC features thru Control Panel
-Ran for a few days with MC features enabled
-Powered on extender and held reset button to hard reset it
-Started extender and used menus to reset it to factory conditions
-Added Extender and used wireless - set DNS to 0.0.0.0
Started everything up and tried to play recorded video
Still no joy - Same error.
Rebooted everything - same error.
Now just need to try and find another machine to try as an HTPC and give it another shot.
Any ideas are welcomed......
Thanks

Ran the Lodctr/R to reset the counters. Reinstalled the MCE on my HTPC and gave it a go to play recorded TV. No luck - got the same missing file unable to play video error....
The unit will play music, play photos in a slideshow, but still no video.
I am trying to get my hands on another PC with Win7 installed to try my Hauppage card and MCE - will report back then - hopefully with better news!

OK - Finally got my new HTPC configured and set up to try to work with the extender - this is what I did
Loaded Win7 (32) Pro on Dell PC
Configured Windows to enable Media Center
Moved mirrored drive to new HTPC that had Recorded TV from old HTPC
Went to MCX and set it to work with the new PC
Went back to the HTPC and set up the extender under Media Center
Went back to the MCX and viola! It works!!!!! I can now view all my recorded TV!!!!
I am thrilled. Not sure what the scoop really is but the HTPC set up works - Linksys DMA2200 works as advertised!!!!!

If your DMA2200 "new in box" There is an update from Linksys that you need to install. You can do it from within DMA2200's menu.
