Windows 8 Media Center/Prime and VFD/LCD

I have a hd44780 and have now installed windows 8 x64 with media center. I would like to see the media center info on the vfd,
with previous versions I used lcdsmartie and plugins to display the info on the vfd.

Now smartie works but the required programs and plugins dont(filewriter.dll or tcpipcontroller).

I use wmc with an hdhomerrun prime so i was thinking worst case maybe smartie could read the html from the primes info page to get some channel info into a txt file or something for smartie to read, registry or something ?

any ideas or suggestions on getting this vfd to work with windows 8 media center ?

Have you tried imon software? Its what I use for my htpc, and works pretty well.
