Help MC can't play videos in program but can out?

Hi all,

Pretty much par for the course with windows 8 and MC. I have a new acer touchscreen aspire 5600u that my main purpose was to set up as a media center.

It's running windows 8 pro. With the fancy touchscreen interface which is tablet like, although it can be returned to desktop.

Now here is the interesting thing. Media center works well for TV tuner straight out of the start menu. Yet will NOT play any sort of video file in movies or video. It just says it can not play this file.

Weird thing is if I am in windows explore and click to open a file in windows media center it plays. Just not from within the interface itself??

I have tried all codecs, including shark 007 32 bit plus 64 bit and activated it as per instructions.


Sending me nuts!!! Anyone have any ideas?
