Buying a Ceton card - what should I expect?
Hi, I am a Cox subscriber in Tucson, AZ and I'm planning on buying the Ceton card this week. What should I expect?
My setup:
Core2Quad Q6600 PC
Win7 (64bit)
3GB RAM
Hauppauge HVR-2250 tuner
nVidia DualTV (SD) tuner
Radeon HD 3400 video card
I've read a lot about people having various issues with DRM'd content from their cable providers. Is this something I should be worried about? I don't know much about SDV or how that applies to my situation. I assume this thing should work out of the box. I have some "on demand" channels, will these be accessible though the Ceton card too? I have an Xbox 360 I can use as an extender... would "protected" content play on extenders? Can I play protected WTV files on a different Win7 computer than the one it was recorded on? Sorry for the bazillion questions... maybe there is a FAQ somewhere I should be looking at for answers?
Any advice, suggestions, etc.. are greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Morgan

Not unless you have other PCs trying to access the content. You won't be able to use another PC to watch the DRM'd content.sleeper42 wrote:I've read a lot about people having various issues with DRM'd content from their cable providers. Is this something I should be worried about?
Ask your provider if they have Switched Digital Video in your area. If they do, you'll need a tuning adapter. As of August 1, 2011, all TAs must support a minimum of 4 streams.sleeper42 wrote: I don't know much about SDV or how that applies to my situation. I assume this thing should work out of the box.
No. Those are specific to your cable box. If you want to watch your cable company's on-demand content, you will need to use one of their boxes.sleeper42 wrote:I have some "on demand" channels, will these be accessible though the Ceton card too?
Yes.sleeper42 wrote:I have an Xbox 360 I can use as an extender... would "protected" content play on extenders?

Thanks for the quick replies, folks! I will run the Digital Cable Advisor before buying.Scallica wrote:--Make sure your hardware meets the minimum requirements or the Digital Cable Advisor will fail.

One other question... I have a BluRay drive and can play movies without a problem, does that mean that my TV is HDCP compliant - or will the Digital Cable Advisor be able to tell me if my TV is HDCP compliant?

Also... I found this link regarding CableCard TiVo's... looks like Cox in Arizona offers Tuning Adapters for free (or they did back in 2009):

Thanks again for you help, guys!

If you can play Blu-ray movies on your system, then your hardware is HDCP compliant.sleeper42 wrote: One other question... I have a BluRay drive and can play movies without a problem, does that mean that my TV is HDCP compliant ?

Thanks again! And I gotta say...this new forum is WAY better than what Microsoft did to the old site. I'm glad this exists.
