HTPC video card question

#1

Post by kc10boom » Fri Nov 02, 2012 7:20 am

I have the cable guy coming Saturday, problem is my GT430 card won't be here till Monday. My Asus motherboard has an ATI X1250 on board. The graphics chipset is several years old, but will it be at least good enough just to make sure the cable and HD channels are working??

Is it hdcp compliant? Run the digital cable advisor it will tell you if tour system is up to spec or if some part will fail. If the card is old and and not hdcp compliant you may want to reschedule the apt.

Looks from my reading that it supports up to HDMI 1.2 and is hdcp compliant. You should be ok I think.. See what the DCA has to say like i said earlier just to be sure.

I couldn't find the DCA, but downloaded it from a link on a forum with 100s of others that couldn't find it. I think I got an early version , it stops and says "something bad happened" and run again.

Will it run correctly on SP1 since all Windows versions are digital cable ready ? I probably have to run it with the cable card installed. Either way, I may just have the guy come out and change over the coaxial cables from DirecTV to Cox and leave the card so I can self-activate it.

I suppose I could just use my GTX460 Fermi card for a couple of days. It has a mini-HDMI port on it...which why they'd put a mini-HDMI port on it I have no idea.....

The DCA is usually in the Media Center Extra's Gallery (Top of WMC main Menu then > to the right) within WMC itself.. Just for future reference.

Yes ^ This version should run fine within WMC/Windows 7 SP1.

You could use the GTX460 and get it going so you know it's going to work as in the end both cards will be Nvidia and same driver package.

Didn't your GTX460 come with a mini HDMI to Regular HDMI cable in the box? My GTX 560Ti's did..

Yes, went to the extras gallery and only the Ceton app was there. It has been a year since I got my card, and it may have come with an adapter but I can't find it. I'm going to pick up a mini HDMI - HDMI cable from Best Buy then be a bad person and take it back when I get my GT430 ;)

Their adapter was just as expensive as a regular cable at the store so I just picked up a cable. Best Buy is such a rip off on most of their stuff

Yup.. The price of convienience... suckage.. MonoPrice and Newegg.. 2 of my favorites if I have the patience. (which most of the time I do for the discounted prices.)
