TGB here and there

#1

Post by timtrace » Mon Sep 17, 2012 6:28 pm

Greetings, and welcome to my first-ever post on TGB.

I thought I'd start with a total newb question.

Why does TGB exist here (ie, tgb.tv) and there (experts.windows.com)?

It's a long story, but there once was a site www.thegreenbutton.COM. It was a very active community. Microsoft bought it, and continued to maintain it for a long while. One day, someone at Microsoft woke up and had a great idea! They said, "Let's completely change thegreenbutton.com. We'll change the URL, lose a bunch of old posts, and totally alienate the community by merging it into a bunch of other Windows topics!"

In the process, they also re-directed the old thegreenbutton.com URL so that it points to the new experts.windows.com site... but the redirection doesn't often work... so links on other websites that pointed to old, useful TGB info no longer work.

So... some of the folks left experts.windows.com, and they started this new site www.thegreenbutton.TV.

You'll notice that this site is much more active than the experts.windows.com site.

Welcome to tgb.tv!

We started this site last year because we love Windows Media Center - more importantly though, because we miss the old TGB community and what it meant to a lot of users.

Unfortunately, we can never replace what has been lost, thankfully, due to our members, we have a great site that keeps getting better and better.

Our aim is to host a site that can be a place in which you can get help in order to make Media Center work for you, as well as being a friendly place to just hang out for a while.

Thanks for taking the time to join our community ;)
Rob.

TGB.tv - the one stop shop for the more discerning Media Center user.

Not to mention the experts.windows.com site is so incredibly slow. It's painful to use it.

I was an original GB member.. Had over a thousand posts there before the big "merge". It was an awesome place to go and get help or just hang out. Once they changed it they lost a lot of members. The new site is laggy and the layout sucks (just my opinion). A lot of the members started talking about starting this site and so it came to be. I jumped ship and came here. It is a lot like the old GB.com. And the people here are very friendly and helpful. Its a great community. Welcome to TGB.tv.

This is a great forum. I follow a forum for my cell phone and it's a completely different atmosphere.
