v1.6.6.0 Release

#1

Post by garyan2 » Thu Jul 08, 2021 9:35 pm

I apologize to the ~1100 users who recently updated to v1.6.5.1 this last week trying to see if it would help with the problems getting tokens from Schedules Direct, but I just released a new version for a couple minor fixes with some improvements. The download and install pages are now hosted on the new upcoming Github site. Though this won't help with the current token issue, it does address an issue they have had the last week or two concerning season images. When they get all that fixed on their end, there will be nothing needed for users to take advantage of the additional images.

I see you are also providing source code now. Do you intend to make this open source?

It is open source. I started using Github to store my code starting back in April 2019 with v1.2.12. Just never had a reason to advertise it.

EDIT: I guess I'll be honest here. I am not a software engineer by any means, so wasn't looking forward to real software engineers looking at my hack jobs.

Wasn't tvdb only used for transferring Series from Rovi to SchedulesDirect/Gracenote? I would think that there are not many people left that would need that functionality...

Maybe the transfer tool should be renamed, since it has new functionality now and the old functionality no longer works (assuming loss of tvdb access means it cannot translate to Gracenote tmsIds anymore).

Yah, tvdb is totally not needed anymore since there are no new Rovi programs to lookup, but it was still part of the code and the GUI. I just ripped it out.

It is still a transfer tool, and it uses a database I created over time to match Rovi IDs with Gracenote IDs (I think 2 to 3 years worth). For series that may not exist in my database, I used tvdb which sometimes included the Gracenote ID. So that still works, but it would require someone trying to transfer a very old backup from before MS/Rovi guide shut down. So now it is really just transferring backup EPG123 requests to a new setup.

If you have any ideas on what to call it now, I'm all ears. It definitely grew outside its' intended purpose.

TVDB is still free at the moment. Latest date for the cutoff is October 1, 2021. Wether they will have any users at that point is another matter.
