EPG123 preparation questions

#1

Post by Space » Wed Jan 01, 2020 12:49 am

I've been monitoring my system after recovering from a failing hard drive. This included restoring a 1-year old image, copying over the DRM licenses file and updating with all the latest Win7 patches.

The day after I got things completed on the new drive, I saw that there were a few more patches that wanted to be installed, so I did so, and had problems getting them to stick. Eventually they all installed (successfully?)

Later that day, I had a problem where WMC could not record or view live TV (tuner issue with my HDHR Prime?). It said to restart WMC or the computer to fix. Restarting WMC did nothing, rebooting the PC fixed it. But this has got me weary to continue on to converting to EPG123.

Since this week is slow for recorded TV for me (only 2 recordings need to be done before next Sunday), and I have no guide left (thanks Microsoft), I just set up manual recordings for those two episodes to give me more time to monitor my system for any problems.

Assuming my system stays stable, I plan to move to EPG123 some time this week, and I have a couple EPG123 related questions:
  1. I was unable to move the WMC database from the old drive to the new (after copying the eHome folder WMC was unable to see my tuners, so just decided to use the year-old DB since the Series, etc have to be wiped out and restored from the backup anyway when migrating to EPG123). So when the install routine gets to the "transfer tool" step, can I just ignore the backup of the current DB and load the backup I saved from the failing hard drive (which has all my current recording requests)?
  2. I have "Remote Potato" installed and it prevented me from copying the eHome folder until stopped the Remote Potato Service (in addition to the Media Center Receiver Service). Will I have to stop the Remote Potato Service when installing EPG123? Or will it automatically stop any process that is accessing the database automatically?
Thanks for the help, and of course, thanks to Gary for EPG123!

Yes, you can just open the previous backup and transfer you recording requests from it.

EPG123 will attempt to close every process that is accessing the WMC database. If it fails, try again. If it fails again, then you will probably have to manually stop the remote potato process.

Thanks.

Another question...

viewtopic.php?p=118766#p118766

Are you setting MinChannel to 1 in the registry in the EPG123 setup or would that be something I would have to set myself before running "Setup TV Signal" in WMC?

It always bothered me that I couldn't tune to channel 1.

Is there any reason NOT to do this?

P.S. Your website seems a bit slow, I wonder why? :D

I do set the minimum to 1 for the Digital Cable tuning space in the registry.
