Does rdpwrap still work for RDP?

#1

Post by CZ Eddie » Tue Sep 18, 2018 4:01 am

I'm trying to get WMC7 up and running in a VMware virtual machine.
But can't seem to get it to work with RDP.
I tried installing the latest version of RDPwrap and it looks like it's installed fine.
But WMC still detects I'm in an RDP session and refuses to allow me to set up the tuners.
And due to GPU passthrough (don't ask) I cannot enable the SVGA driver for VMware to make WMC happy there either, in the VMware remote console.

IS this ESX ? OR VMware workstation ? Just connect to the console and you should be able to setup tuners. Let me know what version of ESX/VMware workstation your using so I can help.

I did a test a few years ago with ESX 5.5 and I was able to setup tuners via the console with no problem.

Note: by VMware Console, I mean their app or program for remote console.

I was at work, on my phone. :)

So my goal ATM is to get ESXi VM up and running for WMC.
Just a VM who's only goal in life is to record all the sports & movies I want to watch.
And play them back to all the TV's in my house at the same time.
Yes, I've been running HDMI everywhere during my 10 year DIY remodel.
So everything would be connected via a higher end HDMI splitter.
One in and something like eight out.
So all TV's play the same exact NFL game at the same time with the same audio, etc.

But VMware has been kicking my $ss.
Passthrough video just isn't working with any of the cards I have right now.
I can get my AMD R9 280 to install drivers, but NOT when the VMware Tools S-VGA driver is installed. The two are conflicting somehow and causing BSOD"s in Win7.

So I have to disable the S-VGA driver from VMware (no onboard VGA on my PC) just to install the AMD drivers and get RDP working fine.
But WMC doesn't like my RDP sessions, so that's why I posted.
I really, really want to get RDP working so I can set things up and get them working the way I want.

Actually, I've given up.
I'm just going to buy a validated used server and a validated used GPU card that both work for VMware. But it'll take a while before I sell my current PC to get the funds to do this.

Why a VM?
Because I'm an IT guy, I support Vmware.
And I run multiple VM's.
So I am GOING to have a VMware server in the house.
Might as well make the WMC server a VM too and save on costs/electricity.

There was some patching involved in win 10 and it would work windowed with no DRM, it also broke extenders as it essentially makes the session believe it is local and not a remote session, I believe the preferred method for watching ing WMC over teamviewer allows WMC to work DRM and all. I have set up a win 7 VM on win 8.1 using a gen 1 hyper-v, that allowed me to setup tuners with the only issue being have to manually install playready and override DCA.
