Unresponsive and constant freeze ups

#1

Post by mustpushbuttons » Fri Nov 11, 2022 7:20 pm

I think unrelated to EPG123 but all y'all are smarter than me :)

A couple days ago, about 30 days after upgrade to latest EPG version - my only machine running win7/ 7MC starts to freeze, delay and generally generally becomes a dick when using 7MC. remote or mouse

This is a first. After installing the OS back in 2010/11 this thing has been rock solid fast etc. I'm thinking software issue vs hardware.

Question: Would reinstall/ clean MCE setup and reinstall and of EPG possibly fix? totally ptsd on cablecard bs w/ comcast from years ago. thios is last resort.

Quick tips ideas welcome. harware is solid imo. new seasonic psu and all that. maybe memtest could find errors/ have not tried any troubleshooting yet

I might suspect a graphics card problem (e.g. failing or overheating) if it is freezing when playing video content. Another possibility is recording disk starting to fail since even live tv buffers through the recording disk I would run any diagnostics you might have for disks and/or the graphics card

hey man thanks. It's only while using WMC interface. Never freezes/ crashes while live tv or playback recordings, streaming any vid or gaming and I AAA game on this thing often. Very unlikely graphics (1650 super) or ssd (samsung 980)... or mem (ran memtest) or cpu mobo (super low temps, dust free :0) or psu (new seasonic)

I did uncheck every option in the EPG123 config menus... and now 99% better. will update if any change.

Total guess maybe something SD related

It's grayed out because you are logged in currently (possess a valid token).

Sweet. Hey can you or anyone provide a clue or point me to any documentation that instructs an epg123 user on exactly how. to. log. out. ?

If the password stored in EPG123 is invalid, then it should not log you in and then will allow you to change the password. So I guess you have to change your password on Schedules Direct first, then run EPG123 and it should fail to log in and the password field should be active again.

EDIT: Another way to do it is to remove the <PasswordHash> line from epg123.cfg, but I'd be careful with modifying that file if you don't know what you are doing, maybe make a copy first before you make any changes.

Thanks - very helpful. Already changed the SD pw. Will wait for a failure/ error then reset.

Just troubleshooting since WMC UI became 100% unusable last week. Returns to normal only when I stop the epg123 service.

Simply navigating the UI it just freezes up for a few seconds.

I only get 99% normal speedy response when I stop the epg123 service.

Still trying to narrow down after 1 week. might try to go back to 1.6.x.

Since the token is tied to the account, and not the username/password, you will either have to wait for 24 hours for the token to expire or remove the token in the registry.

Code: Select all

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\GaRyan2\epg123]
"token"=""
I'm going to enable the login button to be a logout button for this scenario in next release.

What does the service log say? It sounds like WMC may have a lot of image downloads in process and the service isn't responding.

Not the trace.log file, the server.log file. You can view it either from the configuration GUI Service tab, or from a web browser at http://localhost:9009/ and a link at the bottom.

EDIT: If the service is not running, you will need to use the configuration GUI.

Though you have image caching enabled, you have 0 images downloaded. Is the service being blocked by your firewall?

Re: ""Though you have image caching enabled, you have 0 images downloaded. Is the service being blocked by your firewall?""

Service not blocked by firewall I just had the epg service turned off and network disconnected/ airgapped to run OS, disk, file and bios scans.

Just uninstalled EPG123 from programs menu. The guide data and the icon on bottom right of WMC UI remains.

The issue remains. It is a persistent~ 3 sec delay when navigating from any menu to the guide, then within guide the response time scrolling channels. Any navigation outside of guide is fine.

reinstalled epg123, did not rerun WMC setup just removed 1.7.1.x and replaced w/ newer version 1.7.3.x

issue persists, no change.

If there's *any* way to purge all guide/ program image date, guide data and start clean without running wmc setup please advise :)

Are you running WMC without being connected to a network/internet?

Use the client [Rebuild WMC Database] to start a new WMC database without any guide data but all other configuration/settings restored. I don't think this will change anything once you import the mxf file.

I just ran a VM with 1.7.3.0 and disconnected its network interface. Scrolling through the guide didn't have issues and the service log file correctly showed a lot of 404 Not Found errors. It was a little choppy at first, but that may have been just my VM churning on an HDD right after reboot.

Hey man thanks for reply - super friggin cool.

Also... WMC UI speed back to normal 8-) I think the latest EPG123 version upgrade or just leaving the default config settings as-is, just solved. dont notice any more studdering! yay epg123! does this software also solve world hunger, global conflict?
