Two questions about EPG123

#1

Post by MKANET » Sat Oct 22, 2022 11:37 pm

1. Will EPG123/SchedulesDirect support Actor photos? Plex currently automatically downloads actor photos for only TV/Movie media...im guessing from SchedulesDirect?

2. Is there a possibility we might see a feature in EPG123 to automatically generate generic bitmapped poster images with the TV Show/Movie title for missing TV/Movie SchedulesDirect posters? It would look alot better than just having a blank/black rectangle with no image at all. Missing posters can look pretty bad in a page full of media... like missing teeth. :-)

1) I don't think that WMC supports this, so I doubt there is anything EPG123 can do to incorporate actor photos in to the WMC GUI (other than through a separate WMC add-on).

2) This is definitely technically possible. To do it would require EPG123 to generate a graphic image that includes text that indicates the name of the movie/show. It's would just be up to Gary to decide if it is worth the effort.
I've already seen some movies that have this, I'm not sure if they are generated by WMC, Schedules Direct, or Gracenote. If they are generated by WMC, then maybe it is just a matter of EPG123 not supplying image links that are invalid (and instead just have no image link, which triggers WMC to create it's own text-based image???) I'm not sure how EPG123 would know if a link is valid or not, or even if it should be it's responsibility to do so. I would think it would be SD's responsibility to make sure it's links are valid.

1. WMC doesn't support, so there is no construct in the MXF file to add images for people. SD theoretically supports actor images but I've never taken a look.

2. Not clear on the need. If there is no image for a movie, WMC will show a solid color frame with the movie title in it when in the Movie Guide. In the TV Guide you simply get nothing.

My apologies for the late reply. Sorry I forgot that most people use EPG123 for WMC. I'm using it for Plex. I'm grateful that EPG123 works as well as it does with Plex. Thanks for explaining
