Does anyone know why only 1 out of 8 shows recorded OTA on 1/18/21, when they were all set for series record and they worked fine before? Thanks

Check your event log. Open Event Viewer and navigate to "Applications and Services Logs\Media Center" and look for recording events... see if anything is there.

The log only listed 1 show not recording due to a conflict with another, but it didn't address any of the other programs that didn't record. I manually recorded 4 different channels to verify that my tuners were all present and working, and they are. I then went into EPG123 Client and clicked Transfer Tool which allowed me to open recording backups and all that are scheduled are present and green. Is there something else I should do or just wait and see what occurs today? Thanks Gary!

Just to be clear, when you opened the Transfer Tool, your Series requests were green on the right side, correct? You don't have to open a backup to see what is currently in your WMC database.

I think there are a lot of factors that could have resulted in not recording.

Disk space? I don't know if WMC will log not starting a recording if it thinks there is not enough disk space. Prior to starting, it will calculate space needed based on if it thinks the channel is HD/SD and "reserve" that space. If the 7 missed recordings would exceed your capacity then it will do something, I don't know what though.

EPG123 updates have been reported to abort recordings in progress, but there are protections in place to not import guide listings while a recording is in progress unless you use the -f (force switch) added to the task. Unless all 7 missed recordings were happening at the same time as a MXF file import, I don't see this happening.

What series were missed? Maybe there was something in the listing that caused WMC to think it was not a candidate for recording... though for 7 of them seems unlikely.

Power outage? WMC will not log an event for a completely missed recording. Your machine would have to have been off the entire span of the 7 missed recordings.

You had a database crash/recovery which will leave the guide empty until the mxf file is imported again. This seems plausible based on what you have provided so far. You would have had a prompt on opening WMC that a recovery has occurred and you should check your scheduled recordings. Does this sound like something that happened?

Another .02 cent post.

I created a portable utility awhile ago that reads all the recording events out of the event logs and produces a concise list that can then be filtered.

The only reason I mention this is that (in this case) it may be easier to look through a list rather than go through every event and potentially miss something.

For anyone interested it's located in the WMC Recording History folder.

Instructions: Place "Recordings.exe" in a folder and double-click. To remove, delete the folder.

While trying different things, I found that only 2 of my 4 tuners were working on auto record, even though they all recorded when I manually ran them at the same time. I re-ran the TV Setup in the Media Center, which fixed the problem. I am so, so sorry that I troubled you and YOU are SO MUCH APPRECIATED. Ron

The only reason I mention this is that (in this case) it may be easier to look through a list rather than go through every event and potentially miss something.

For anyone interested it's located in the WMC Recording History folder.

Instructions: Place "Recordings.exe" in a folder and double-click. To remove, delete the folder.
This is Cool! I'm using it to clean up my schedule. Mine only go back to Jan 2020 but that's good enough for me--trying to find shows that are no longer being shown and removing from the schedule to clean up.

Any chance you can create a csv with it?

Thanks for such a cool program.

Are you wanting to import it into Excel (or another program)?

Then you're in luck!

When you first open "Recordings.exe" it creates a temporary file named "RawRecordings.txt" to work from.

This file only exists when the GUI is open and is deleted upon exit. The reason for this is so it's always working from a copy of the current event log.

You can create a copy of "RawRecordings.txt" while you have the GUI open and then open that copy with Excel. You can also open it directly in Excel while you have the GUI open.

That file is tab delimited, so select that when you open it in Excel.

Great!! That is what I did. The date/time probably could be cleaned up a bit and maybe broken up in to 2 fields. But it works!

Thanks again!

OK, I'm going to be "that guy":

It's $0.02, or it's 2 cents.

".02 cents" is two hundredths of a cent...

It took me a great deal of control to not be "that guy" when I first saw this post. It seems that education can sometimes look like being a jerk. I think as long as you do it to educate it's fine, but don't be surprised when it's not seen that way.

By the way, what's your thoughts on these:

It cost 10$

I found $10 dollars today!

If you don't correct them, they will keep doing it? Right?.. Right? :wtf:

Just another $0.02 - .02 cent - (or any other worthless value) opinion. Once again, YMMV!

Excel string functions are your friend. Here's an example of breaking out the date and time. Then you just need to hide any columns you don't need, OR use the copy/values function, OR... use any number of Excel functions to pretty up or make the output the way you want it.

Edit: OOOOOOOOPS! I inserted a line above the data and the hard coded formulas don't reflect that. All the 2s in the formulas should be 3s. Example... All the A2s should be A3 and the C2s should be C3.

Question -> Which do you prefer, 2s or 2's or A2s or A2's. I've seen it both ways but most people prefer number descriptors without the apostrophe.

The default size for the Media Center event log is 8192 KB (around 8 MB).

Image

I changed mine to 49984 KB (around 50 MB) to give me a lot more history.

If you'd like to increase your history, go into Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> View event logs.

In the left panel of Event Viewer go to Applications and Services Logs -> Media Center.

Right click on Media Center and select Properties.

Change the value in Maximum log size (KB) to a value of your choosing and press the OK button.

DISCLAIMER: Clearing the log file in Event Viewer or Media Center will clear out the recording events that my utility uses. IT Troll gives a better explanation here.
