v1.4.0 Release

#1

Post by garyan2 » Fri Sep 25, 2020 10:50 pm

Just released a new version. The big news on this one is that the installer/uninstaller and executable files are now signed so should lessen the trouble with UAC, SmartScreen, and AV/Firewall software. I encourage everyone to update to this version in order to increase my reputation score for that reason.

Users that create XMLTV files may find a new feature interesting as well as users that want to customize the call sign and service name of their stations in the guide. This is particularly useful for OTA users that may not recall what station is broadcast on KXXXDT.

Just realized after release, you will need to save a new configuration file to see instructions on how to use the custom call sign and name. In order to do so, open the configuration GUI, change any option, click [Save], change the option back to its original setting and click [Save] again. You can then edit the epg123.cfg file and see the instruction in comments of the file.

Code: Select all

<!--StationID attributes: You can add the following attributes to any station to customize your guide further.
      HDOverride="true" - flags all programs on this station to be HD
      SDOverride="true" - flags all programs on this station to be SD
      customCallSign="H and I" - will replace the call sign provided by Schedules Direct with "H and I"
      customServiceName="Heroes & Icons" - will replace the station name provided by Schedules Direct with "Heroes & Icons"
      Note: special characters in XML will need to be escaped.
            ampersand = &
            less-than = <
            greater-than = >
            quotation = "
            apostrophe = ' -->
EDIT: the change/save/restore/save little dance no longer needed with v1.4.10. A single save after install will do it. Also corrected misspelling of apostrophe.

Screenshots of XMLTV extended information option within TiviMate. Top line of description is similar to what WMC provides in program details.

Nice, thanks for all the updates.

Oh, and small typo, "apostrophe" ;)

Released v1.4.10.0 to fix column sorting that I broke. Took the opportunity to fix the misspelling as well. Also of note, users will not have to change a setting, save, change setting back and save again... now only a single save will suffice.

Speaking of... I evidently decided this very minor update deserved a big jump in version number from v1.4.0.0 to v1.4.10.0 rather than v1.4.0.10. Jeez I need some solid sleep.

Nice release. Many thanks for going to the effort/expense to sign the code. :thumbup:

The System Tray Icon did state that an update was available in it’s pop-up, but the icon remained green. I thought there was a different status colour for this (perhaps blue?).

When closing the configuration app I get a changes have been made prompt every time. Even when no changes have been made and even if I click Save immediately before closing.

The signing was probably a good enough excuse to bump it. You even moved all the old (non-signed) versions to an archived download page.

Gary,
I installed your new version 1.4.10.00 but could not get it to work on my Win 7 x64 system. This is the first time I can remember having to use a setup program to install a new version of EPG123 and it seemed to install OK, but EPG123.exe doesn’t seem to do anything when I select save and execute.
I messed around with it a bit, but I needed a working system tonight and eventually decided to try and revert to v1.3.10.00, but I couldn’t get that to work either so, to cut a long story short, I am currently restoring a C-image I have from a few weeks ago in order to get a working system.
Could it be that your new version failed to work because I chose to install it in C:\epg123 (where I have always installed it) rather than the default location?

Looks like I only got half the fix in. It says there was a change because the version number in the cfg file is different than the version of configuration GUI. It will save the new cfg file but I don't have anything in there to update the version number before it saves. I'll get this change out soon. I had this "turned off" a long time ago since it was a time that I would make a backup of the cfg file on every change which saved a lot of unnecessary files in the backup folder. Looks like I only partially turned it back on last night.

No change in icon color in the tray, just the notification will tell you... and the notification tray will only tell you if there is an update available if your status is green.

EPG123 can run wherever you put it. I've checked this scenario out a few times and haven't had a problem with a portable install in c:\epg123 and then using the setup program to install in the same location. Do you any AV/Firewall software?

When you install the latest version using the setup file, did you make sure it installed to c:\epg123 and not c:\epg123\epg123? I have the setup program automatically append the .\epg123 folder to whatever folder you select so have to be careful there. It's one of those "darned if you do, darned if you don't" kind of scenarios.

Also, with the portable install, did you create your own shortcuts to run the configuration GUI or do you just navigate to the folder?

Gary -- I have the same issue with this version running Windows 7 64-bit. Save and Execute returns absolutely no activity. :/ Wanted to watch football today.

Yah, I saw that and responded to the other thread. Need to know what your trace.log file says.

Try the latest latest version of EPG123 and see if it works now. I may have fixed this with version 1.4.10.10.

In the log, is the Client supposed to be a different version number?

When I do minor releases, I just bump the rev on the files that are changed. For v1.4.10.0 to v1.4.10.10, only epg123.exe was changed.
