EPG reporting TO BE ANNOUNCED when data is available

#1

Post by sirlou2022 » Wed Dec 07, 2022 3:52 am

I am having a problem where I am getting the EPG returning a "TBA" listing for one channel (KTLA-DT Channel 5 in LA). I have tried repeatedly to update the EPG through both NextPVR and doing it directly through EPG123 for Windows Media Center. Both applications show a "TBA" on the affected channel and time. I checked TV Guide online and there are indeed listings for the channel at that time, so this is confusing, Never had this problem before. I used Schedules Direct for my EPG data.

Attached is an image of the NextPVR guide showing what is happening.

Any thoughts?

The data source for EPG123 is Gracenote (through Schedules Direct), so if you want to compare your data to the source, check https://tvlistings.zap2it.com/ which is also from Gracenote.

Thanks!

Yeah, Gracenote had the proper listings (as confirmed by TV Guide and er...me as I watched the channel).

I don't understand why I was getting that "TBA" then? If Gracenote had it right shouldn't EPG 123 have pulled that from SD and output the proper info?

How do you update the guide using EPG123? Do you do it manually through the GUI, through task manager, or through the systray icon?

Updating through the GUI is different than through the other methods in that it does not run the VerifyLoad process, which corrects some entries in the guide listing that the normal import may have missed.

So you should normally make sure to do the update through the scheduled Task manager task, or through the systray icon. If you manually do the update through the GUI and do not use a scheduled task or the systray icon, then you may occasionally have listing entries that do not get updated.

Well I don't think that is the issue.

For Windows Media Center I do have it updating manually, and in this case when it auto updated it said it had done so with no errors. But still there was the TBA listing. So THEN I ran it manually and it STILL persisted with the TBA listing.

SD only updates their database twice a day, so if you find program(s) in the future that have TBA, but the zap2it site does not, then submit a ticket with SD to look into it. The fact that your NextPvr is showing the same, which uses the xmltv file, supports that the guide listings SD is providing is not correct.

Just to make sure though, if you clear your cache and run an update, and it is still TBA, that will be proof that the problem probably lies with SD.

All good ideas Gary, thanks! I am wondering if it might have been the Network as well. This is a show they have said they were not renewing, so they might have been messing with the schedule. Who knows?!

My manual recording via NextPVR worked fine anwyways.
