Windows 7 antivirus

#1

Post by gardenquilt » Sun Oct 02, 2022 3:22 pm

My McAfee antivirus coverage is due to expire, and when checking to be sure McAfee still protect Windows 7, it appears they no longer provide support. Anyone willing to share the antivirus used on their Windows 7 PC? Because of the conflict between EPG123 and the updates to Windows 7, I no longer run the few Windows 7 updates, so the Microsoft provided antivirus is no longer updated. Thank you.

I think Windows Defender still updates even if you don't have Windows Update running, at least the virus definitions do. This is what I was running on my HTPC before the motherboard died.

I am running Bitdefender Antivirus Free on my other Win7 PC (which is also running as my WMC machine for now), but I think it may be the cause of periodic (about once every 2 to 3 months) BSOD crashes (mostly because they started when I replaced Avast with Bitdefender), but I'm not 100% sure that it is the cause.

I've had my Win7 updates disabled for quite a few years. I'm still running security essentials which automatically update frequently.

I also run Microsoft Security Essentials on my Windows 7 systems. I have used it for many years. But I understand that support will be going away in 2023. So I need to start looking for an alternative soon. I was forced on my WHS2011 server to go to Avast for around $40/yr. Hard to find a AV that runs on a server OS without spending an arm and a leg.

Norton 360 is still working on my Windows 7 systems.
