Restore epg123 backup from win7 to win10 PC to copy setup?

#1

I thought I had seen a thread that at least touched on this but can't seem to find it now.

If I just want to duplicate my wmc setup from my win7 pc to a win10 pc (channels, mappings, recordings, favorites, etc) can I just restore an epg123 backup from 1 to the other? If so, how far should I take the wmc install/setup before doing so?

Thanks much!

Gary can confirm, but if you use the "[Backup]" button in the EPG123 client, it will save a zipped backup to the backup folder in the EPG123 folder. You can then restore that on the new system using the "[Restore]" button and selecting that zip file.

I think saving on the Win7 system and restoring on Win10 system should work, but again, Gary should be able to tell you this.

You can do this after the full install is complete. I'm not sure, but you may be able to save some time by doing it earlier in the install process.

Yes, you can restore a backup from Win7 onto Win10. Before doing so, you should start a WMC TV Setup at least to when it starts scanning channels. This is just to make sure the registry entries for your tuners are added for WMC. You can end TV Setup at that point.

Once that is done, just use the [Restore] button and everything should be as it was on the Win7 machine. Of course, you will still have to import the guide listings but everything else will be there.

I finally got around to doing this and it appears I'm doing something wrong. I have not done much troubleshooting yet but will be trying some different things.

Here are the steps I've taken:

<win7> Did epg123 client backup on current/live win7 system (think latest epg123 version, but will confirm)
<win10> I took the wmc msi install up thru tuner setup
<win10> installed newest epg123, restore backup from win7 (restore on main epg123 client page)

System seemed to only have some of the channels, favorites, etc in place.

Have not yet imported guide data but assume channels would not be dependent on that. I'll try the full process again but thought I'd see if anyone has ideas on what I could be doing wrong.

Your favorites are dependent on your guide data, so import the guide and see if everything comes back. The restore will only work if you have the exact same tuners as when the backup was created. If you have not setup all the tuners in the Win10 machine and/or tuners are different, then the restore won't be "complete".
