I would swear I've either asked about this before or seen it, but right now I'm stumped and haven't seen it anywhere (probably I'm blind as a bat). I am happily using epg123 and WMC on Windows 2004, and have set it up again on another TV, apparently successfully. There is one difference.
In WMC on my main HTPC (the older install), if I go to settings->TV->Guide->About I get a bunch of information about EPG123, in particular the guide end date. On the newer install, under settings->TV->Guide there is no "About". Can anyone tell me what step I missed?
Not a very big problem, but any suggestion would be appreciated. It is handy to see that the epg123 guide is updating properly.

Long story, short, you only get the 'About Guide' when a lineup is associated with your tuner hardware. With the latest version of EPG123 this will not happen automatically for OTA and DVB-S channels.
The way to get the 'About Guide' back is to open the client, select any channel on the left side, right-click it, and select 'Unsubscribe'. You will then need to subscribe the listing for that channel from the right side with that unsubscribed channel and your lineup will then be associated with the hardware.

Thanks garyan2, your procedure worked! I don't recall doing that before. In any case, I really like seeing "about", as I said, to verify that the guide updates, though you'd think by now I'd be pretty confident, since it is very reliable!

That's the long story. In v1.3.5.30, I added match name parameters in the MXF file for WMC to automatically match DVB-S lineup channels to tuner channels since the channel numbers assigned by WMC on a scan were arbitrary... the EPG123 automatch will not work for them. At the same time, I included the ATSC channels in that. The problem is that since WMC does the matching automatically, when EPG123 goes through its' routine, there is nothing to do and it is only when EPG123 does the work does it assign the lineup to a device which enables the 'About Guide'.
So unmatching a channel and matching it back gets it the job done.
