I didn't see any mention of this here:

Could this work on wmc 8.1 with the right codecs? Or, could be the straw that breaks even the die-hard wmc user?

My thought is, there won't be any Win7 driver for it. And there won't be any codecs for it.

So now you're starting down the rabbit hole that is right next to trying to make WMC work in Windows 10. Probably not impossible, but...

In the end, who cares. ATSC 3.0 is new, and ATSC 1.0 will be around for a long, long time. Plenty long enough for us to...probably move away from broadcast TV altogether. Me, I'll be on-demand streaming without commercials like I am now (Netflix, Hulu, Amazon).

I was just thinking about this the other day. I especially liked the
For those of you with Plex, Channels, or any other 3rd party software - we are excited to say that 3rd party support will work the same way. The HDHomeRun QUATRO 4K outputs MPEG-TS streams so existing apps can record content without changes and can playback content with the addition of codec support.
And what it might mean for WMC. Unfortunately it does state later in the project about codecs that might have to be purchased from M$.

it's the "with the addition of codec support" that's a huge unknown.

With Win7 as dead and gone as it is, who's writing codecs for it?

When they say "3rd part software," I'm sure they mean "current 3rd party software". And that leaves out WMC.

I found this thread at the HDHomeRun forums: https://forum.silicondust.com/forum/vie ... 33&t=73537
Nick's response to the WMC inquiry seems unclear. It seems what is needed is a hevc / h265 codec, which I believe is available for WMC. I haven't explored this myself but know others point to Shark etc.
Anyway, I posted on the thread asking for clarification.

ah, third party codecs. The bane of the WMC user.

"Honey, why did the DVR stop working?" TGB universal answer: "uninstall that codec pack".

It should still have a Windows 7 driver. All of the HDHR tuners use a unified driver installer and I’ve seen nothing from them that suggests Win 7 support is getting dropped at this time.

The issue with WMC would appear to be a codec one. And that’s no small issue, given the headaches I’ve seen around “codec packs.” Silicondust is wise to steer clear of that! But it should be interesting to see someone do a test with WMC and ATSC 3.0 once this thing ships.

Not to mention, bye bye any and all extender compatibility because of HEVC
