What kind of XBOX 360 for a media extender?

I've never had a media extender. If I look for a used XBox 360, what would be the minimum requirements to use as an extender?
I see some really cheap ones on ebay, like $25 or so.
Is this already described somewhere?

Thanks

Any Xbox 360 will work. I would stay away from the white ones unless you know how to look for a Jasper revision. The Xbox 360 Slim and Xbox 360 E are the most reliable. Unless you have Xbox 360 games I would instead look for a media center extender as they will use MUCH less power than any revision of 360. The 360's do make great extenders though.

I know I am resurecting an old thread but keep in mind if you are using windows 8 media center the only thing you can use for an extender is a Xbox 360.

I just bought an XBOX 360S from Movie Trading Company/Vintage sellers for $130 as part of my move from Win7MC to Win8MC. I didn't mind that price as I could just drive over and pick up same day - and had 30 days to return for store credit. But it worked fine once I figured out the IR remote codes to turn on and off the power (the rest of the codes are the same as the Ceton Echo if you enable the WMC remote option).
