I've upgraded my computer and the new one doesn't have built-in IR (as it's Windows 10 and not designed for WMC). Using this forum, I've got WMC working just fine, but I need a receiver for the remote.
Option A: Buy an WMC compatible IR receiver
Option B: Buy an WMC remote/receiver combo off ebay
I like the design of the remote I already have, so I only need a receiver, but lots of them seem to require programming. Are there any out there which will just work with the WMC remote? If I go for option B, will the IR receiver work with my existing WMC remote?
Many thanks,
Steve

Go on Ebay and just find a Microsoft receiver, like this one:

The Microsoft receiver works with other universal remotes. I have a bunch working with several logitech harmony remotes perfectly.
You could also get a Flirc USB receiver that is more customizable, but I prefer the plain jane original microsoft receiver.
Which remote are you currently using?

Thanks for your reply - I did actually end up going for something similar to what you suggested, but it's going to take a while to ship to the UK:

I did see the Flirc USB receiver but was under the impression that it would need manual programming with all the buttons... unless it has a "Use MCE Remote" setting?
I've never seen another remote like the one I have, but it's about 90% similar to this:
