Browser unupported O/S nag

#1

Post by IT Troll » Sun Mar 05, 2023 10:30 am

Chromium web browsers now feature a persistent warning banner about use on unsupported operating system when launched on Windows 7 and 8.
I wouldn't recommend using an old O/S for heavy web browsing, but the banner can be annoying if streaming video.
It can be permanently disabled with the following registry settings.

Code: Select all

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge]
"SuppressUnsupportedOSWarning"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Chrome]
"SuppressUnsupportedOSWarning"=dword:00000001

Thanks much!

I know there is a thread on mydigitallife about win7 browser issues such as browser derivations that will be open source maintained.

I haven't read it enough to quote any specific recommendations, but it is worth a read.

Here it is: (it's possible an account is required to view)

Post #19 in this thread has some good links, in particular, "ungoogled chromium"
