Windows update broke Decoder

#1

Post by eraser808 » Sun Aug 29, 2021 7:43 pm

The August 10, 2021 security update appears to have broken my wmc decoders. I'm getting a video decoder "broken or not installed" error and no video or audio will displayed/play. I suspect it is "Windows Media MPEG-4 Video Decoder Remote Code Execution Vulnerability CVE-2021-36937" update.

I rolled back to an August 1 restore point and it is working, but I assume MS will push the update again.

Any ideas on how to fix the decoders so they will work after the update?

Change Windows Update to manual and don't update. As long as you use Windows 7 for WMC only, it will work fine.
